No, VolWeb.ca™ is free for both volunteers and event organizers seeking volunteers.
Q. What is considered an event?
An event is something that takes place with a clear start time and end time. Festivals, fundraisers, conferences, and sports tournaments are good examples of events.
Q. What types of positions can we use VolWeb.ca™ to recruit?
You can use VolWeb.ca™ to recruit any type of volunteer position as long as it is associated with an event. Most of these tend to be short-term positions during the event itself, such as guest registration, security, food services, and so on. Some positions may involve volunteer work leading up to the event, such as planning committee members or help with promoting or marketing the event in advance.
Q. Why can't I post ongoing positions?
VolWeb.ca™ focuses on short term event-based volunteer opportunities, and most of our registered volunteers are specifically interested in volunteering without a long term commitment. If you are looking for a place to recruit ongoing volunteers, you can try contacting your local volunteer centre.
Q. We're an organization with multiple locations/chapters. Should we register once and post events in various locations or should we register multiple times, once for each location/chapter?
Either is fine! It's up to you. If you want to centralize your volunteer recruitment, you can have one individual post all the events at multiple locations. Doing so would mean that that person is responsible for logging in and checking for updates, or they can give out their password to the different chapters and share an account. If there is a person responsible for event volunteers in each location/chapter, then you can have multiple accounts, one for each chapter.
Q. Where does VolWeb.ca™ have volunteers?
VolWeb.ca™ has registered over 10,000 volunteers. Many of our members live in the Lower Mainland. However, as we are expanding throughout the province and nationally, we are slowly increasing our volunteer presence across the provinces and across Canada.
Q. I'm not getting a lot of volunteers signing up-what should I do?
Instead of waiting for volunteers to sign up for your event on their own initiative, why not invite them to volunteer at your event? You can search for individuals who meet your volunteer requirements and invite them to volunteer at your event. These individuals will get an email asking them to respond to your invitation. There is a "Find Volunteers" link in your navigation menu when you are logged in as an organization.
Q. How can my event be profiled on VolWeb.ca™'s home page or in the newsletter?
We try to profile a variety of events on our home page and in the newsletter. The best way to increase the chances of having your event profiled is to have a good description of your event and its positions.
Q. Why can't I see a volunteer's contact information?
Our privacy policy dictates that we do not share a volunteer's contact information unless they have confirmed that they want to volunteer with an event, either by accepting an invitation or by applying to a specific position. Until that happens, you will not be able to see the volunteer's email address or phone number.
Q. I've forgotten my password! What should I do?
Simply click on the "forgot my info" link under the login button, enter the username for your organization, and your password will be sent to the email address of both the primary and secondary contacts. If you've forgotten your username as well, email us at volweb@bcgames.org and we will help you.
Q. I'm having technical problems with VolWeb.ca™! Who should I contact?
If you're having problems with VolWeb.ca™, please email volweb@bcgames.org.
