When Vancouver was awarded the 2010 Games I filled out an application immediately and told all my friends and family that I was going to volunteer for the Olympics. A few years later I recieved an email suggesting that I volunteer for the Vancouver World Weightlifting Championships, which I promptly did. As I have been retired since 2000 I proceeded to build my volunteer resume in preparation for the 2010 Games. A few years later I received another email asking I fill out another application online, which I promptly did. Then in 2009 I finally got a call and had a short interview on the phone and many months later I was called for an in person interview, after much waiting I got the email inviting me to accept an invitation to become a volunteer. I attended a couple of orientation meetings and then after 7 years of planning and waiting and never doubting that I would be a volunteer I got the invite for my Accreditation and uniform pickup. My first day I was so excited my hands were shaking, but I got through it with the help of my team leader and all the great people I volunteered along with. A very memorable volunteer experience for me; I still wear my various uniform pieces with pride. I have a slew of souviners and memories to last a lifetime. My most recent volunteer experience was for the 2010 BC Summer Games in the Township of Langley, I was a timer at the swimming competition and it was alot of fun.
